New WordPress Plugin for Church Sermons

UPDATE: I released a Sermon Manager plugin for WordPress – available at WP for Church!
Ever since WordPress 3.0 was released, I desired to take advantage of custom post types to display sermons on our church website. I created something that is very functional for our church that I’ll be launching soon. (I’m very excited about the makeover our church site is about to get – I’ll be detailing it here when it is live!)
This week I became aware of a new plugin designed to take advantage of custom post types in WordPress. You can find all posts related to its development over at Tobias Labs. Development has been moving swiftly with several releases in the past week.
It is designed to replace the Sermon Browser plugin, which has been widely used by many churches to display sermons on their WordPress powered church websites (according to their website over 2,000 churches). It is very functional. However, the original developer has abandoned it for some time. The new “Sermon Posts” plugin by Tobias Labs is designed to replace and enhance the functionality of the original Sermon Browser plugin. It also has the ability to import from Sermon Browser. This is an awesome feature!
The plugin is currently only for testing purposes. It will require some template editing in order for your sermons to display properly.

Wow, thanks for the mention, Jack! Lord willing, I hope to move along to an official WordPress.org release within a couple weeks.
How long until you think it will be ready? I do a lot of web work for churches and would love to use this plugin!
Thanks for stopping by Ryan. If you are interested in WordPress for ministries, I hope you will subscribe to the rss feed or follow me on Twitter. The links are on the top right
I think it will be a month or two before Tobias is able to get a plugin ready for primetime. I think it will be a great plugin when it’s ready!
I’ve got some code that doesn’t have near as many features, but it works great for my church website. I’m just importing the sermons manually & then I’m will post an article here about the site.
I was recently asked to help my church post their sermons online. The are looking for a way that is very simple so that non-tech-savvy volunteers can do it easily. I would be happy to assist in the development of this project. I am not a word press master but I am an expert PHP developer. If your not looking for help, please let me know where I can get this plug-in, even a beta version would be great.
Thanks for stopping by Jonathan. Right now, Sermon Browser is a good choice. The development on it seemed dead, but now it is starting up again. It looks you have that up and running since commenting. I have used it on many sites before, but I am hesitant to continue using it. I want to manage my sermons through the wordpress core with custom post types instead of creating a whole new system within wordpress (as Sermon Browser does). However, if development continues, Sermon Browser will be a great option for many sites due to its easy setup. Let me know how it works for you.
